Insulin resistance means your body’s cells don’t respond properly to insulin, so blood sugar stays higher than it should. Over time, this can lead to prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and other health problems.
Symptoms & Signs
Insulin resistance often develops silently, but possible indicators include:
• Weight gain, especially central obesity
• Skin changes: dark patches (acanthosis nigricans), skin tags
• High blood pressure or cholesterol
• Fatigue or difficulty losing weight

Dietary factors: Frequent consumption of sugary foods, sodas, coffee, alcohol, or highly processed foods.
• Oral bacteria activity: Plaque bacteria produce acids when breaking down sugars, lowering saliva pH.
• Dry mouth: Reduced saliva flow (from dehydration, medications, or mouth breathing) means less buffering capacity.
• Stress: Can alter saliva composition and reduce its protective effect.
• Systemic influences: Acid reflux, certain medications, or metabolic conditions may contribute.
